Summer School – Baptism of Fire: A Holistic Approach to the Anthropology of Cremation

We are delighted to announce that registration is now open for the two-week summer course entitled “Baptism of Fire: A Holistic Approach to the Anthropology of Cremation”, to be held on July 9-22, 2023 at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.

A broad overview of theories and methodologies applied to the study of cremation is waiting for attendees from all levels and backgrounds in
this summer school course.

The course will discuss:

  • The genesis of cremation
  • Fire experience and pyrotechnology
  • Archaeological and forensic sciences applied to cremation and fire
    contexts
  • Anthropology and bioarchaeology of cremation
  • Beyond cremation deposits
  • Current research in the anthropology of cremation

The course is fully in English. (For students, you will be awarded 4 ECTS for the course).

Registration fee is €1,100 and includes :

  • Accommodation in Brno (July 8-23)
