Recruitment : archaeozoology post-doc

Stockholm University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in archaeozoology to join the Pioneers of Northern Scandinavia project, funded by the Swedish Research Council.

The purpose of the project is to shed light on the chronology and origin of the first humans in northern Scandinavia, to recreate the prehistoric environments that the first humans experienced, to reconstruct colonization processes for various animals, mostly mammals and primarily those associated with human activity. Through new knowledge of reconstructed coastal environments and environmental changes, the pioneer settlements and their adaptive strategies can be identified.

2-year fixed-term contract (full-time) (starting 1 December 2024)

Research skills in the following areas are required:

  • Analysis of prehistoric zooarchaeological assemblages – burnt and unburnt
  • Knowledge and experience of taphonomy and faunal history in Scandinavia
  • Knowledge of several fields: archaeology, GIS, geology and ecology.

Bilingual English required
