The proceedings of the 42nd International Merovingian Archaeology Days are now out!

The conference was held in Saint-Germain-en-Laye from 5 to 8 October 2022 and explored new research carried out over the last two decades on early medieval funerary contexts.

A key part of the conference was the the review of the three collective research projects being carried out in parallel in Île-de-France, Champagne-Ardenne and Alsace, and their contribution to our knowledge of early medieval cemeteries and burial practices in this part of France.

Part of the AFAM tradition, the conference also gave speakers the opportunity to present local research and specific topics, such as grave architecture, grave goods, the profile of people buried in cemeteries and human palaeopathology. Last but not least, new perspectives opened up by archaeoscience through disciplines and methods as varied as palaeogenetics, the study of organic remains, exclusive digital recording and machine learning were discussed.
