Conference: The Definitions of Humanity

Article published on 28 September 2019 | Catégorie(s) : Events

What are the criteria that may be confidently considered as being diagnostic of the human? Are the definitions of the human involved in paleoanthropology merely working hypotheses, or are they able to shed light on our humanity? Are those definitions really different from the features that were identified as uniquely human in philosophy?

These issues will be raised in this conference, which will consist of eight round tables, each involving a philosopher, a cognitivist and a paleoanthropologist. Debates will focis on the classic distinctive criteria of the human being: bipedalism, tool, language, etc. Communications will be in English.

Dates : From Thursday 03 October 2019 to Friday 04 October 2019
