Article published on 17 February 2025 | Catégorie(s) : Events, Research news

The call for papers is open for participation in an international and interdisciplinary conference-debate at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris.

Date & Venue: 26 to 28 November 2025, Paris.

Theme of the conference is ‘Le fait religieux à l’épreuve de l’archéologie. Religions-Cultures-Identités’ (The ‘religious fact’ and archaeology. Religions-Cultures-Identities).

The conference is organised into 4 sessions :

  •  Identifying the religious fact
  • The religious fact and space: landscapes, sanctuaries and cult
  • The religious fact and its representations, practices and rituals
  • The religious fact and the question of identity.

The relationship with the sacred is universal and was probably present very early in human history. From the outset, the humanities and social sciences have focused on this issue, which resonates with societal problems in all eras. Approaching religious phenomena from a scientific angle means addressing symbolic thought through evidence that lies outside the strict field of conceptions and practices. But what meaning can we give to the religious fact in space and time in various territories and environments, in different humanities and societies? To what extend are the evidence (for instance, parietal art) related to a possible “spirituality” or a desire to obtain the favours of a superior or immaterial entity, or to an intention that we identify as religious?

Deadline for submission: 30 mai 2025

Details of the call for papers are attached.
