Call for papers – GPLF 2026

The call for papers for the 2026 GPLF (Groupe des paléopathologistes de la langue française) conference is now open!

The conference will take place in Caen, 27 & 28 Mars 2026.

Proposals must be submitted by 19 December 2025to the following email address: asso.gplf@gmail.com.

The conference will take place in two stages.

  • On the 27th of March, the participants will meet at the Institut Mémoires de l’Édition Contemporaine (IMEC). This first day will start by a tribute to the work of Mirko Grmek, in particular his concept of pathocenosis and his other fundamental contributions to palaeopathology. The oral presentations will focus on this approach to contextualising palaeopathology.
  • On the 28th of March, the conference will take place at the Maison de la Recherche en Sciences Humaines (MRSH) at the University of Caen Normandy. A tribute will be paid to Jacques Bérato, a rheumatologist and archaeologist from Toulon who recently passed away. He was an active member of the GPLF, president of the Centre Archéologique du Var, and a key figure in the revival of the GPLF’s work and annual meetings in Toulon from 1996 onwards.

In addition papers that focus on all aspects of animal and human palaeopathology, and on the history of palaeopathology and medicine are welcome.

All paper proposals will be carefully considered, with no specific theme set.

Criteria for abstract proposals for oral and poster presentations:

  • in French
  • 500 words maximum + keywords

Change in the format of poster presentations: these will take the form of a short presentation, supported by a presentation of 5 slides (maximum)

Registration fees are 25 € (15 € for students, unemployed participants and pensioners). A lunch will be organised on Saturday (25€). This year, you can pay via the HelloAsso platform (link below) or by the usual payment methods (the association’s bank details are attached).
