Course University of Lille 2025: Understanding and applying archaeothanatology protocols

The University of Lille is offering a degree course for 2025 entitled: Maîtriser et appliquer les protocoles en archéothanatologie (understanding and applying archaeothanatology protocols).

The aim of this DU is to provide a solid grounding in archaeothanatology (fieldwork and interpretation of funerary structures and assemblages).

Please note that this course is designed for people with a good command of written and spoken French.

Admission procedures and application periods:

  • session 1: from 01/10/2024 to 01/11/2024 (selection result on 18/11/2024)
  • session 2: from 18/11/2024 to 29/11/2024 (selection result on 06/12/2024)

Intended audience and prerequisites:

This diploma is aimed at people who already have training in anthropology or archaeology.

  • Students with a Master’s 2 in anthropology or archaeology
  • Professionals with a Master’s degree or experience in archaeology (excavation skills and writing of excavation reports and scientific articles).

Equivalent qualifications apply to:

  • Graduates with a master’s degree in biological anthropology
  • Those who have completed the ‘Training in the study of burials using an archaeo-thanatological approach’ course run by UMR 5199 PACEA at the University of Bordeaux.
